ABS

Vertical Knee Raise

BeginnerBodyweight

The vertical knee raise suspends you upright on a captain's chair and has you draw your knees toward your chest. Keeping the torso vertical while lifting the knees trains the abs in a way that carries over to real-world strength. It also asks the core to stabilize against swinging.

How to do it

  1. 1

Step onto the pedals of the vertical knee raise bench and press your back against the pad.

  2. 2

Rest your forearms on the parallel pads and grip the handles, palms facing in.

  3. 3

Brace your core, lengthen your spine, and lift your body so you hang supported.

  4. 4

Without swinging, flex your hips and abs to draw your knees up toward your chest.

  5. 5

Lower your legs back down under control, keeping your core engaged between reps.
