Medicine Ball Overhead Sit Up

A demanding sit-up variation that adds a medicine ball pressed overhead. The extra load and longer lever make the abs and shoulders work harder, giving you more resistance and range than a standard sit-up.

How to do it

    Lie face up with knees bent, holding a medicine ball in both hands.

  2. 2

    Position the ball in the middle of your chest.

  3. 3

    Brace your core and sit up, beginning to press the ball upward as you rise.

  4. 4

    Pause with the ball above your head, keeping your core tight.

  5. 5

    Lower your torso back down slowly, drawing the ball back to your chest as you go.

  6. 6

    Keep your chest up and shoulders back throughout, feeling it mainly in the core with some shoulder work from the press.
