Loop Band Standing Ab Twist

BeginnerResistance band

A standing rotation drill that pits your obliques against band tension pulling from the side. Because you work upright, your legs and deep core also fire to keep you steady, which carries over to sport and everyday twisting. It builds rotational strength without any spinal loading.

How to do it

  1. 1

Anchor a loop band to a pole or rack at roughly shoulder height.

  2. 2

Stand side-on to the anchor, feet about shoulder-width apart, a step or two away so the band is taut.

  3. 3

Grab the free end with both hands and hold it out in front of your sternum, arms straight.

  4. 4

Brace your midsection and rotate your ribcage and shoulders away from the anchor.

  5. 5

Control the return until you face the anchor again, then reset and repeat before switching sides.
