Smith Machine Shrug

A shrug performed on the Smith machine, where the guided bar keeps the movement locked to a vertical path. That stability makes it easy to concentrate on squeezing the traps rather than steadying the bar.

How to do it

    Stand tall with feet shoulder width and the bar set at about mid-thigh height.

  2. 2

    Grip the bar shoulder width with straight arms by softening your knees and hips.

  3. 3

    Unhook the bar and brace your core to hold a neutral spine.

  4. 4

    Chest up and shoulders back, raise your shoulders toward your ears.

  5. 5

    Lower the bar and your shoulders back to the start.
