Dumbbell Upright Row

BeginnerDumbbell

A dumbbell take on the upright row that primarily works the traps. The free weights add a bit of instability and stop a dominant side from compensating, so each shoulder does its own share of the work.

How to do it

  1. 1

Stand tall holding a dumbbell in each hand in front of your hips, palms facing in, arms straight.

  2. 2

Keeping the dumbbells close to your body, drive your elbows up toward the ceiling.

  3. 3

Keep your spine neutral through the whole rep.

  4. 4

Once the dumbbells reach chest height, lower them back down to the start.
