Cable Shrugs

A cable-based shrug that builds the traps with steady tension the whole way through the lift. Because the pull comes from a fixed pulley, the tension never drops off at the top the way it can with free weights.

How to do it

  1. 1

    Set both pulleys to the lowest position and take a handle in each hand with an overhand grip.

  2. 2

    Stand centered between the towers, feet about shoulder width, knees slightly bent.

  3. 3

    Drive your shoulders up toward your ears using your traps.

  4. 4

    Pause briefly at the top while keeping tension.

  5. 5

    Lower slowly back down without letting the traps go slack.
