Handle Band Upright Row

BeginnerResistance band

The handle band upright row works the shoulders and upper back by drawing the handles up the front of your body. Using a band instead of a bar tends to be gentler on the shoulders and lowers the risk of impingement. It's a solid choice for building shoulder and upper-back strength while supporting better posture.

How to do it

  1. 1

Stand on the middle of the band, feet shoulder-width apart, holding a handle in each hand with an overhand grip in front of your hips.

  2. 2

Draw your elbows up and out, pulling the handles toward shoulder height.

  3. 3

Keep the handles close to your body as you lift.

  4. 4

Lead with the elbows, letting them rise above the hands.

  5. 5

Lower back to the start under control and repeat.
