Dumbbell Hanging Lateral Raise
A lateral raise variation where you hold a cable post and lean away to hang the working arm out to the side. Leaning increases the range of motion at the bottom, which improves how well the side delt is worked. Training one shoulder at a time keeps the focus tight and the tension honest.
How to do it
- 1
Stand side-on to a cable post and grip it with your inside hand for support, arm extended.
- 2
Hold a dumbbell in your outside hand at hip height, letting your torso lean away from the post.
- 3
Raise the dumbbell out to the side in a wide arc until it reaches just above shoulder height, keeping your arm straight.
- 4
Lower the dumbbell back down under control.
- 5
Avoid swinging or using momentum, keeping the weight light and the movement slow.
- 6
Finish your reps, then switch sides.
