Hammerstrength High Row

BeginnerMachine

A machine row that sits between a lat pulldown and a seated row. The fixed path adds stability and keeps your range in check, so you can focus on pulling hard rather than balancing the load. A good machine option for building back strength.

How to do it

  1. 1

Sit upright in the high row machine and press your chest into the support pad.

  2. 2

Reach up and grab the handles with an overhand grip.

  3. 3

Pull your elbows down and back, keeping them at roughly 45 degrees from your torso.

  4. 4

Draw the handles toward your chest, then return to the start under control.

  5. 5

Keep your shoulder blades against the pad and don't pull your back off it.

  6. 6

Think about driving the elbows back to keep the work in the back, not the biceps.
