Snatch from Blocks
The snatch from blocks starts the lift with the bar raised on blocks just below the knee, shortening the range and putting the focus on the explosive second pull. Removing the floor start lets you drill speed, power, and overhead technique. It's an advanced tool for lifters sharpening their snatch.
How to do it
- 1
Set the loaded bar on blocks just under knee height and stand with feet shoulder-width apart, slightly turned out.
- 2
Brace your core, hinge back, and grip the bar with a wide double overhand grip.
- 3
Extend your legs to raise the bar, and once it passes mid-thigh, explosively open your hips, knees, and ankles with high elbows.
- 4
Whip the bar overhead and drop into a squat, snapping your elbows so the bar locks out with palms up.
- 5
Stabilize the bar overhead, then stand tall.
- 6
Return the bar to the blocks and reset for the next rep.
