PVC Romanian Deadlift

BeginnerBodyweight

The PVC Romanian deadlift uses a light pipe to teach the hip hinge that drives the Romanian deadlift, targeting the glutes and hamstrings. Without heavy load, you can focus entirely on a flat back, a proper hinge, and feeling the right muscles work. It's an excellent starting point before progressing to weighted versions.

How to do it

  1. 1

Grip a PVC pipe with both hands, wider than shoulder-width, using an overhand grip.

  2. 2

Stand with feet just outside shoulder-width, core braced, back flat, and chest up.

  3. 3

Push your hips back, softly bend your knees, and fold your torso forward over the pipe.

  4. 4

Lower the pipe down your legs, stopping when you feel a gentle stretch in your hamstrings.

  5. 5

Pause for a moment at the bottom.

  6. 6

Squeeze your glutes and hamstrings to drive your hips forward and stand tall again.
