PVC Jerk Press
The PVC jerk press is a teaching drill for the jerk, using a light pipe so you can learn the dip, drive, and catch without real load. It primarily challenges the shoulders while coordinating leg drive with the overhead press. Practicing with a pipe locks in timing and technique before you add a barbell.
How to do it
- 1
Grip a PVC pipe with both hands, wider than shoulder-width, overhand grip.
- 2
Stand with feet just outside shoulder-width and rack the pipe in front of your shoulders.
- 3
Dip by bending your knees slightly, keeping the pipe in the front rack.
- 4
Explosively extend your legs and press the pipe overhead in one motion.
- 5
As it rises, bend your knees to drop underneath and catch it with straight but unlocked arms.
- 6
Stand your legs to full extension, then lower the pipe back to your shoulders.
