Power Clean and Press

The power clean and press links an explosive pull from the floor with an overhead press, building full-body strength, power and coordination in one lift. The clean phase develops speed and force from the ground to the catch, while the press challenges overhead strength and stability. It's a demanding movement favored by athletes chasing dynamic power.

How to do it

    Stand with the loaded barbell over your midfoot, feet about hip-width apart.

  2. 2

    Hinge down and grip the bar just outside your knees with an overhand grip.

  3. 3

    Explode through your hips, knees and ankles to pull the bar up toward your shoulders.

  4. 4

    Drop under the bar and catch it in the front rack position, then stand fully upright.

  5. 5

    Brace your core and press the bar overhead until your arms lock out.

  6. 6

    Lower the bar back to your shoulders and then to the floor, and repeat.
