Pause Barbell Lunge

IntermediateBarbell

A barbell lunge with a hold at the bottom of every rep. The pause boosts time under tension and demands more stability, building strength and endurance in the quads, hamstrings, and glutes while sharpening balance.

How to do it

  1. 1

Stand with feet hip-width apart and the bar resting across your upper back in an overhand grip.

  2. 2

Step one foot forward and bend both knees to lower into a lunge until the back knee is just above the floor.

  3. 3

Hold that bottom position for one to two seconds.

  4. 4

Push off your front foot to return to standing.

  5. 5

Repeat on the other side, alternating legs.
