QUADS
Dumbbell Step Up
A weighted step-up that loads the quads while also working the glutes. Holding dumbbells lets you add resistance without shortening your range of motion the way holding a bar to your chest might. A good single-leg strength and balance builder.
How to do it
- 1
Stand tall with a dumbbell hanging at each side, palms facing in, feet hip-width apart.
- 2
Face a plyo box, standing about 3 to 6 inches from it.
- 3
Shift your weight onto one leg, lift the other foot, and plant it flat on top of the box.
- 4
Keeping your torso upright, drive through that top leg to stand fully on the box, bringing the other foot up beside it.
- 5
Reverse the steps to lower yourself back to the floor, then repeat.
