Double Dumbbell Power Snatch

IntermediateDumbbell

The double dumbbell power snatch drives two dumbbells from the floor to overhead in one explosive movement, demanding full-body power, coordination and stability. Using two separate weights taxes grip and shoulder control far more than a barbell would. It's a dynamic athletic lift that develops speed and overhead strength together.

How to do it

  1. 1

Hold a dumbbell in each hand and stand with feet slightly wider than shoulder-width.

  2. 2

Let the dumbbells hang in front of your thighs, palms toward you, chest up and back flat.

  3. 3

Hinge your hips back and bend your knees to lower the weights toward the floor, elbows outside your knees.

  4. 4

In one fluid motion, extend your legs to bring the dumbbells to the hang just above your knees, then explosively drive your hips forward and rise onto your toes.

  5. 5

Pull the dumbbells overhead with your back and shoulders, dropping slightly under them as your arms lock out above and just behind your head.

  6. 6

Hold the top for a beat, then lower back to the start and repeat.
