CALVES

A-Skips

BeginnerBodyweight

A-Skips are a foundational running drill that trains you to drive the knees up in a crisp, rhythmic pattern. The exercise sharpens speed, coordination and agility while the core keeps you stable. It is a staple warm-up for anyone looking to improve sprint form and explosiveness.

How to do it

  1. 1

Stand with feet slightly wider than hips, knees bent, chest up and eyes forward.

  2. 2

Shift onto the balls of your feet and hop just off the ground.

  3. 3

On landing, hop again and drive one knee up with the shin bent to ninety degrees.

  4. 4

Pump the opposite arm in a running motion.

  5. 5

Snap the raised leg back down and land on both feet.

  6. 6

Hop again and drive the other knee up, alternating legs throughout.
