CHEST

Dumbbell Larson Press

BeginnerDumbbell

A bench press variation where your legs stay lifted off the floor, cutting out any leg drive. With no help from the lower body, the chest, front delts, and triceps have to do all the work while your core stabilizes you. It's a useful way to clean up pressing technique and build honest upper body strength.

How to do it

  1. 1

Hold a dumbbell in each hand and lie flat on a bench.

  2. 2

Straighten both legs out and point your toes, so your body forms one line from head to feet.

  3. 3

Set the dumbbells slightly outside shoulder width with your palms turned toward your feet.

  4. 4

Keep your head, shoulders, and hips glued to the bench throughout the set.

  5. 5

Press both dumbbells straight up until your arms lock out over your chest.

  6. 6

Pause briefly at the top, then lower them slowly, staying tight through the chest.
